The Florida Legislature distributed copies of the
Florida Redistricting system (FREDS 2000) to members and the public on
September 27. Since then, legislative staff has made several important
enhancements to the program. The operations for building district
geography are improved, a superior method for assigning precinct data to
census blocks is employed, and the population of one block in Franklin
County and one block in Gulf County are updated to reflect official
corrections issued by the U.S. Census Bureau. Otherwise, Census
population counts and precinct level data are unchanged.
- FredsSP1.EXE (5 Mb) updates program
files.
- StatsSP1.EXE (239 Mb) updates the
database used by FREDS 2000 for generating district
statistics.
Once the updates are installed, you can import existing plans stored
on your computer. This will regenerate district geography and statistics
and may cause slight shifts in voter registration and election
statistics for some districts.
After updating your copy of FREDS 2000, you will be able to directly
access House
and Senate
redistricting plans posted to Online Sunshine. If you choose not
to run the StatsSP1.EXE update on your computer, you will need to
"Import" rather than "Open" these FREDS 2000 plans.
The practical effect of the program enhancements
is small, but nevertheless we wanted to make the updates available to
all who are using FREDS. If it is not practical for you to download the
FREDS 2000 Service Pack from the web, please email the FREDS 2000
Support Team at freds2000@leg.state.fl.us
to
request a copy on CD.
